Purpose and benefitsJob satisfaction takes many forms. For some people, job satisfaction means a relatively secure income; for others, it means the opportunity to concentrate on a single, fascinating career. Then there are those for whom job satisfaction comes from having a variety of different careers (either all at once or consecutively) that allow them to earn a livelihood exploring a wide world of interests. To critical observers, this approach to career development may appear unfocused and directionless. However, it is an excellent approach to enjoying the many adventures, opportunities, and textures (sights, experiences, friends, diversities, and so on) of modern life. And because the so-called ‘job for life’ is virtually extinct, the single most compelling argument for suppressing one’s curiosity in favour of the illusion of job security has been negated. |
