Purpose and benefitsReaders of the "Wall Street Journal" knew Tom Petzinger for the observations on management that appeared in the regular columns that he wrote for that paper for four years. Ultimately, the direction of his columns led him to study the ways of small entrepreneurial firms and what big companies could learn from ‘the new pioneers’, the term he used as the title for a best-selling book on the subject. Tom was so fascinated by the entrepreneurial world that in 2000 he left management writing to start a biotech company in his home town of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Thus Tom became one of those rare management thinkers who have had to meet a payroll while striving to grow a sustainable business. |
