Purpose and benefitsJohn Naisbitt is a US futurologist whose books have sold in their millions. He predicted ten key restructurings that would change the business environment. In some respects, particularly in pointing out before most people that we have changed to an economy based on the creation and distribution of information, he has shown remarkable prescience. He has also written interestingly on the reaction to the rampant spread and acceleration of technological progress in the realm of what he calls ‘high touch’, that is, experience on an ordinary human scale. Naisbitt shows his humanist origins perhaps in championing the small organisation and activities at grass-roots level and asserting that they have the major role to play in the globalised economy. Only time will tell whether his predictions are also accurate in this regard. |
