Purpose and benefits

Tom Peters, in many people’s eyes the first management guru, shot to fame with the publication of "In Search of Excellence" in 1982, which he co-authored with Robert Waterman.

Excellence seemed then to reside chiefly in large, highly organised corporations. As time went on and circumstances changed, so did Peters’s views. His later writings tend to praise more flexible organisations with network structures.

He is remarkable both for the diversity of his interest—he is not limited to any one single perspective—and for his ability to spot trends and move with the flow while remaining ahead of the field.
