Purpose and benefits

From a rented garage in Palo Alto, California, David Packard and Bill Hewlett founded one of Silicon Valley’s most enduring IT companies, Hewlett-Packard. When Packard met Hewlett at Stanford University in the 1930s, Palo Alto was best known for its prunes. By the time he died, it had established itself as the epicentre of the most famous high-tech cluster in the world, and the company he helped to create had become one of the pillar companies of Silicon Valley.
