Purpose and benefitsArthur Rock is the man credited with coining the term ‘venture capital’. Without the venture capital industry, there probably would have been no new economy or information revolution. Without Rock, there might not be a venture capital industry. Rock was the first venture capitalist (VC) operating on the West Coast of the United States. He organised the funding that got the computer revolution under way when he helped eight researchers break out from William Shockley’s laboratories to found Fairchild Semiconductors. Then, through different investment funds, he rounded up financing for some of the biggest companies in Silicon Valley, including Intel and Apple. |
